Surrounded by obstacles
Not seeing assets
One difficulty I, and many others have, is a thought that problem solving is about overcoming the difficulties in life. Too often attacking the problem and trying to solve it is doing things the hard way. There is often a much easier solution to be had by taking advantage of assets instead of worrying about liabilities. Perhaps this involves adjusting plans, or making a goal that matches reality, but fighting liabilities without utilizing assets is at best a losing game.
I need to stop looking at problems to be solved, and start looking at possibilities to build. Problem solving and crisis management are useful coping skills — but, I want more in life than coping. I want to see strengths and assets, and to take advantage of them.
