No promises

There are no promises
Tomorrow may never come
Life is never certain
Even promises of death are unreliable

The doctors named a date
A generation passed
Life and breath continued
Choosing to live instead of die

Do we give up too easily?
Not knowing that there is still hope?
Do we surrender our vision too easily?
Do we die in spirit while our body breathes?

Some never surrender life
Starting things they will never complete
Planting trees they will never see grow
Working to goals which must be buried with them

Years pass, and some goals are finished
Goals that once seemed a way to pass the time
Fighting to complete before the last breath
Breathing again to continue the fight

None can predict tomorrow
Death or life we do not know
God willing, we will do or not do
Tomorrow is not ours
