Building defences

How do we live at peace with every man.
Some refuse to be at peace with others
They seek conflict, and we are overran
The world shall take on me and my brothers
Is the answer to just lay down and die?
Should I expect the world to be peaceful?
Sometimes peacemaking fails: There is no “why”
Seeking peace we find life more colorful
We build defensive walls and arm ourselves
And we beat our plowshares back into swords
Our productive lives are placed upon shelves
As our attention turns to hostile hoards
Forced to participate in senseless waste
Either I fight, or find myself displaced

Deep thoughts indeed and well worth the pondering….
