A plainsman thinking about the homesick beach-lover.

The plainsman visits the beach,
Feeling the cold breeze that never ends
Hearing the crash of the waves
The ringing of ships bells seems unending

The soil feels so very alien
How can the ground be so very hard, yet soft
Move slowly and you sink,
Run, and the wet sand stings the feet

Seeing the dolphins swimming in
Amazing how close they will come the land
Wondering why people put on suits, and swim like fish
Seeing and fearing the power of the waves

Walking on the beach,
Watching as the water rises to destroy the sand-castle
Smiling to think of the child that built it….
Smiling larger when realizing that maybe she was fully grown

The plainsman sees the beauty that has always been there
Sees the people who are on the beach
naked skin touching the sand, feeling the breeze
One speaks, the plainsman learns sea and sky are twins

The plainsman has fallen in love with the sky,
Those at the sea, have fallen in love with the water
The plainsman’s heart breaks remembering where the sky is hidden…
So he sheds a tear and a prayer for the beach lover who moved to the plains.
