writing essays

The heart is so very confused
Torn between duty and anger
Not knowing the right way to go
Wondering if the world’s dragons are too large

The eyes scan the pages
The fingers dance on the keyboard
Much evil comes from ignorance
Ignorance is defeated by education

Sometimes the strongest tool is the pen
An essay that can give people the chance to think
Ideas that can form a debate
Luther was right when he nailed his ideas to the door

Ideas are powerful
Ideas guide actions
The world is filled with passionate people who do
They act when someone who thinks convinces them

Yet, evil comes when there is too few thinkers
A leader who silences all other voices
One who sees debate as disunity
Any will other than his own becomes treason

They eyes scan the pages
The fingers dance on the keyboard
Over time essays begin to take shape
What remains is to find the right door

Publication has become so very democratic
The press is free to those who are literate
So many words, many without source
Any thoughts could get lost in the pile

Do people now ignore all other voices
Information so available that they choose not to think
Hearing only the names of the enemy
Rejecting in anger without hearing a word?

The eyes scan the pages of old books
The ears remember the speech of current times
The fingers dance on the keyboard
The heart hopes that a few words can still be heard.
