Still Counting

Counting has become a way of life
Everyone needs to be numbered
Life is broken down into numbers
Arithmetic defines life

Statistics are brought together
Maps are made and redrawn
People argue about what it all means
Simulations are trusted before reality

One wonders if there was a time before counting
A simpler time without such arithmetic
A simpler time when arithmetic did not lead to statistics
But, would such a day be simpler?

Numbers can be simpler than words
Describing details objectively
Leaving out all but the requested detail
Those details perfectly reproducible

The counting continues
Soon counting will lead to taxes
