Learning about Christianity from Islam

with 5 comments

What is revelation?
How can there be so much fighting?
Half the world states: “We believe in one God”
Yet these fight with words and weapons

The concept of God is so great
To understand the creator is impossible
The creator must be greater than the universe
So big that the mind cannot begin to conceive

This otherness brings confusion
When man prays, how can God hear?
Why should God care for such a small one?
If God hears my prayers, does he care?

It seems that faith requires revelation
Man is too small to touch God
God must touch man
There is the question of how?

What is the ultimate Word of God?
How does he speak and relate to man?
Half the world states: “We believe in one God”
Yet they fight about how God speaks with man.

We remember that God gave the Torah to Moses
Is this the ultimate word?
Is this law enough?
Was Jesus right when he argued that letter of the law only brings death?

One fifth of the world sees Muhammad and Gabriel on the mountain
Prophetic poetry read for centuries
The ultimate Word of God contained with a book:
The Muslim tells me the: “The Koran is ‘LOGIC’

One third the world reads the Gospel of John
“Ἐν ἀρχῇ ἦν ὁ λόγος‚…”
The mind remembers the Incarnation of Christ as λόγος
Christ both God and divine revelation in Human flesh

The Christian sees revelation in the form of Incarnation
The Muslim in the form of an oracle,
The Jew in the form of Law
Each sees the other as false or incomplete

Reading Sura of Mary, I see that Muhammad rejects Isa
Accepting Him as prophet, but rejecting him as Divine Revelation
The Muslim tells me that Koran is Logic
I realize it is Logos to him as Christ is logos to the Christian

Understanding begins to come to the mind
After learning only comparisons of paper to paper
Scripture to scripture comparisons become rather amusing
Koran is not another scripture — Koran is an alternative Christ

Sunrise

leave a comment »

The time has come to uncover the windows
Letting the sun shine through
The coming dawn paints the sky
Orange pokes above the horizon

The air seems cold after the heat of the evening
There is a temptation light the boiler
The cold of the morning brings coolness inside
The body will wait to labor in the comfort of the afternoon

The sun seems to climb rapidly
The light and warmth bathes the land
The light and warmth pours into the windows
Soon the house and the air will grow comfortably warm

Plans continue to move forward
As the sun climbs, and life moves forward
Some plans wait for the right moment
Others are carried out as they can be

The body still feels the work of yesterday
Today’s work should be somewhat lighter
Both days should pay in subsidence
Though, which pays more is difficult to count

The sun rises earlier every day
The sun sets later every evening
Will the body continue to wake before dawn?
Enjoying the ever longer days?

The body seems eager to greet the dawn
Spring has truly come
The depressing darkness has broken
Every day the sun rises higher

Sermon Eph 4:11

A sermon on Ephesians 4:11, attached as a PDF. Not much of a sermon, more speculation… I dislike expounding on such a short section — but useful to know for my interpretation on section as a whole… and I could not hardly mention this passage otherwise.

Spring morning

with 2 comments

The body wakes before dawn
Moving and preparing for the day
Meditating for a moment in the twilight
Completing morning tasks while it remains morning

The eyes see that there is hope for anyone
Even self can be reformed
Every day is a new day
Reformation is constant work

Prayers are raised for self and others
Does God have a plan for these moments?
A man feels so small in such a crowd
What difference does my moment make?

Work continues as the sun climbs
The time has come to offer attention to the body
Perhaps a reward for completed tasks,
Perhaps a punishment for long neglect

The mind wonders how so much can be neglected
A quiet frustration stealing away time
Leaving the world in decay
Seeing work completed brings hope

The eyes see work that must wait
The garden is already waiting for seed
Seed waiting for the sun to warm the soil
The body eager to taste the fruit of such labor

One moment will follow another
It seems earlier moments touch the later
Productive moments come one after another
Rest is pleasant when it marks success

The body is now ready for the next task
There is a strange hope that the day will be fully successful

Spring rain

with one comment

The rain falls softly
The body is able to ignore
Yes there is the question of time
Is the soil ready to receive?

There are rumors of snow
The constant rain filled the soil with water
Disturbing the ground creates mud
Today may not be a day for planting

The eyes survey the first days work
Laying out plans and preparations
Setting up clear boundaries
Preparing for clear and understandable notes

Study requires measurement
Measurement requires reference
Reference requires boundaries
If all is well, everything is repeatable

A scale will be necessary
Careful counting of costs
Documenting spending and produce
Finding if any others will share the fruit of labor

The mind and heart are filled with plans
Today may seem wasted, yet tomorrow has hope

Turning the soil

with one comment

The hands turn the soil
Still cold, but not still frozen
Green is returning
