Optimism

Watching the election
Surprised, yet not surprised
Optimistic, yet worried
They say this makes history

The news talks of the economy
Seems people think that a president changes it
not knowing the nature of the office
It looks like a hard four years

Anyone’s term would be hard
This one seems doomed to fail
So much hope and high expectations
Perfection would prove a disapointment

The model of prosperity was strange
Consume, but do not produce
Borrow when savings fail
Create new paper when the old fails

All the talk is about preserving the old order
The world hopes for a fix, but the problem remains
No one wants to rebuild the system
There is a desire to share the pain —

Yet, knowing that hard times must come
Knowing that whoever is in office will be blamed
Knowing the blame is unfair, as he cannot control the world
Knowing the hard times come — I am optimistic

The Democrats have offered a surprize
Someone with dark skin, but not running as a victim
Democrats seem to want to keep certain people victims
Barak Obama is no victim

Perhaps the nature of politics can change
Perhaps this hope can bring new opportunity
Perhaps Obama can be a symbol of hope
What he cannot do — the people can

Without hope, there is no life
God willing, we embraced hope

  1. I’m afraid your right, this was going to be a one term president, no matter who got it. The economic problems run to deep to be easily solved. That said I am optimistic that we will be able to weather it.

  2. Yeah, it is not fair either. Hoover did not bring the great depression. Carter did not cause the problems that were coming either… This one I’m afraid is bigger than Carter’s (I pray not bigger than Hoover’s, but people’s view that they can juggle the numbers might make this one last a while)

Thing is — ‘we’ always blame the person IN office. Sometimes, they have even blamed people who were not in office yet.
