A box in the mail

A box comes in the mail
A smile comes to the face
Knowing that a journey was made
The object to show an act of love

The hands touch the box
Testing it for weight
Searching the outside
Praying that no damage is done

The eye searches for a name
Finding two the heart dances
Destination like a Christmas gift
From a dear friend

Eagerly the tape is cut
The box, for once treated carefully
Hoping the contents are in one piece
Praying the postman was gentle

With care the packaging is removed
So much tissue paper
Searching for what is inside
Finding it at last

It is beautiful
It is undamaged
It brings a smile
THANK YOU.

I like the way this poem drew me in–wondering, at first, if it was a package you sent, received or helped deliver and then the anticipation to see if it arrived safe. Very nice.
